THRISSUR: In a shocking display of audacity, a gang of thieves executed a highway robbery on National Highway 544, stealing 2.5 kg of gold ornaments from local jeweller Arun Sunny. The incident, which occurred around 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, has sent ripples of concern through the community.
Arun was transporting finished jewellery from Coimbatore to Thrissur when three vehicles surrounded his car near Kallidukku, an area currently seeing subway construction. According to Arun’s account, the robbers threatened him and forcibly removed him from his vehicle, taking his assistant with them.
The robbers allegedly assaulted Arun with a hammer to extract information about the hidden gold. After nearly two hours of torment, they abandoned both Arun and his assistant in separate locations before fleeing with the stolen jewellery.
Authorities have launched an extensive investigation, recovering Arun’s vehicle in Vaniyampara, but the gold remains missing. Inspector Pramodkrishnan J.C. of the Peechi police station stated, “We have registered a case and are analyzing CCTV footage, including visuals from a private bus on the Thrissur-Palakkad route. The license plates of the involved vehicles appear to be fake.”
This brazen daylight heist has alarmed residents in Thrissur, a hub for gold and diamond jewellery, raising concerns about safety and security in the area. The police are actively pursuing leads to identify and apprehend the suspects, with local citizens eager for swift justice.
